Loup Garou

“FRINGE FEST” show times are below:

What folks are saying:

This is a great creative work of anger, caution and imagination, [with] ingenious design elements, haunting, scene-setting music and Nick [Slie]’s phenomenal performance.

David Cuthbert, Steppin Out

A perfect storm of vivid writing [and] spirited acting.

Will Coviello, Gambit

Nick Slie plays the title character with … unbridled physicality, sheer desperation, Shakespearean lyricism and even humor.  Loup Garou makes a powerful statement that anyone who loves New Orleans and south Louisiana should see.

Moly Reid, Times Picayune

Local award-winning performance innovators ArtSpot Productions and Mondo Bizarro, in collaboration with the Gulf Restoration Network and New Orleans City Park, present Loup Garou, a new environmental performance that uses rigorous physicality, poetry, music and visual installation to investigate the deep interconnectedness between land and culture in Louisiana. Loup Garou opens October 8, 2009 in the abandoned fields of City Park. This outdoor performance includes post-show discussions about coastal land loss with the Gulf Restoration Network. With Thursday morning performances beginning at sunrise and weekend evening performances ending at sunset, Loup Garou is part performance, part ritual, part howl to the world about southeast Louisiana’s plight. We invite you to join us as we sing a song of loveand hope for our precarious homeland.

What is a Loup Garou?

He is a wild and dangerous entity (some say a werewolf ) well anchored in the folk traditions of southern
Louisiana. His story comes from France through Acadia down the Mississippi and numerous inland
routes to Louisiana.

Loup Garou involves some of New Orleans’ most accomplished artists:

Performer: Nick Slie
Director: Kathy Randels
Poet: Raymond “Moose” Jackson
Designer: Jeff Becker
Visual Installation: Phil Cramer, Adam Tourek & Swamp Deville
Musicians: Barbara and Whit Connah
Production Manager: Melisa Cardona

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the performance with
cash or check payable to ArtSpot Productions. Seating is limited.  To make a reservation, please call 504-826-7783. For further information please visit www.artspotproductions.org.
